Garden thievery warning
Thu 1 April 2010
As the weather becomes warmer and the days get longer, people are more likely to spend their leisure time in the garden. Many people put a lot of time and money into their gardens during the spring and summer months in order to make them a relaxing and picturesque place to enjoy.
While the weather may not have reached record temperatures yet, this summer is predicted to be the hottest since records began 160 years ago . If reality plays out to prediction, there will surely be an increase of people using their gardens for barbeques and sitting in the sun.
However, insurers are now reminding home owners to secure their belongings in their front and back gardens to protect them from thieves . Smaller items are better protected in a shed or inside the house if possible, whereas larger items such as barbeques and garden chairs that cannot be put away should be covered up or tethered to the ground or wall.
To reduce the risk of burglary, points of entry to the garden should be kept locked to dissuade opportunistic thieves, and garages and sheds should be treated the same way in order to retain the validity of garden insurance policies.
Specifying expensive items on your
garden insurance policy can provide you with the security that your belongings will be protected in case of theft or other unfortunate incidents.
