Eastern UK battered by rain
Fri 5 March 2010
Localised flooding in eastern and southern England has caused chaos for homeowners, and those travelling by road and rail.
As of yet, the amount of damage caused by storms is unknown, but homeowners are warned to take caution of any flood water nearby.
David Beddlington of the Environment Agency said, “If flooding does occur in your area, it's best to stay out of flood water. It's often dirty and if it's fast flowing can be extremely dangerous.”
The destructive weather is thought to be the tail end of the storm which hit parts of Spain, Portugal, and France, killing at least 50 people. In the UK, parts of East Anglia and Kent received up to 25mm of rain and 50mph winds over the weekend.
London also saw a large amount of disruption, as localised flooding caused delays on train lines near Clapham and Fulwell.
The rain is due to ease off throughout the week, but there are chances of isolated rain and wintry spells before the temperatures plummet again next weekend.
Insurers recommend getting suitable home contents and
buildings insurance policies, which can provide homeowners with financial protection in the event of flooding.
