Britian's largest lottery win
Mon 15 February 2010
A couple from Cirencester, Gloustershire became £56.5 million richer after winning a share of the EuroMillions draw jackpot last Friday*.
It has been confirmed that this is the biggest lottery prize ever awarded in Britain, beating that of the £91 million split between unemployed Les Scadding, and a syndicate of seven call-centre workers last year.
The full prize available in the EuroMillions draw was £113 million, meaning that the couple from Cirencester are taking away half of the total winnings. The other winning ticket was bought in Spain, but it is thought that the other winner could also be British.
Tickets are sold for this draw in the UK, Spain, France, Austria, Belgium, Ireland, Luxembourg, Portugal, and Switzerland. This lucky numbers were 1, 5, 18, 38, 45, with Lucky Stars 4 and 6.
With a win this big, significant purchases are likely to be made by the winners.
Home contents insurance is vital whether you win the lottery or not, as it is important to protect your belongings. The winners could potentially afford:
• £16,000 kilo of Almas caviar in 24-carat gold tin
• £200,000 on Virgin Galactic flights
• £6.3 million 1930s Bugatti Type 41 Royale
• £19 million Caribbean island, Baliceaux, measuring 320-acres
• £56 million for Portsmouth Football Club
